All England One Act Theatre Festival
AAD runs a First Round Festival as part of the All England One Act Theatre Festival. The festival moves around the area and the next one is scheduled for February 2007. The festival is open to all members of the Association and as soon as details are finalized, copies of the Rules, Entry Forms and other details are available on this site or via the Festival Secretary.
AVON ONE ACT DRAMA FESTIVAL 22 to 24 February, 2007 This is being held at the exciting new venue of The Blakehay 20\22 Wadham Street, Weston super Mare, BS23 1JZ, and we are welcoming the return of the popular adjudicator, Mike Kaiser, GODA. For those of you who prefer written directions rather than relying on multimap or little boxes in your car here are one of the editorial team's directions:
Drive through Weston to the Sea Front. Follow round to the right, past the Winter Gardens then next right, second left and you are in Wadham Street. There is a car park 200 yards past the Theatre. We are a tad disappointed in only being able to run for three nights; despite initial interest and response amongst Weston clubs and schools, only The Bleadon Players are entering. They of course are very welcome and we hope they enjoy taking part in the festival scene. For those of you whose companies are not entering this year or who have never thought about entering, do come along and support us. You are promised an evening of varied theatre and an adjudicator whose down to earth comments and encouragement are always worth listening to. Weston is very accessible in the winter [ no motorway queues!] Performances start at 7.30pm.
Thursday 22 February : Sodbury Players Youth Section in Dickens Children by Nick Warburton; The Bleadon Players in The Winter of 1917 by David Campton; Sodbury Players in Is there Anybody there? by Lee Flewett.
Friday 23 February : Oldland Youth in Hard Candy by Jonathan Rand; The Actonians in The Bet by Miles Malleson, adapted from a Chekhov short story; Oldland Players in Blue Sky Thinking by James Maxwell.
Saturday 24 February : Oldland Players in Semblance of Madness by John Newmeir; Apollo Players in Huis Clos by Jean Paul Sartre, translated by Stuart Gilbert. This will be followed by firstly, an adjudication of the evening's plays and followed by the adjudication of the Festival and the presentation of prizes.
Tickets £6 (£4 students) available from (01454) 228243 or the Blakehay (01934) 645493. ) Winners of the Avon Festival will progress to the Central Division Final where they will compete against other Round 1 finalists from local counties etc. The Divisional winner will then progress to the Western Area Final which is then followed by the English Final - normally in June. All rounds are adjudicated by independant adjudicators who are members of GODA [the Guild of Drama Adjudicators]. Following this round the English winner will be invited to participate in the British Final which can be anywhere in Great Britain or Northern Ireland
