Bristol & Avon Archaeology

Issued annually and free to members, Bristol & Avon Archaeology (BAA) is the journal of the Bristol & Avon Archaeological Society.

BAA features a selection of illustrated excavation reports and articles on local archaeology. Recent items have included:

  • Excavations on the Medieval Waterfront at Bridge Parade, Bristol;
  • Abbots Leigh - a 1st/2nd Century Romano-British Site;
  • An Archaeological Investigation on the Site of the Former Bath Chronicle Printing Works;
  • Two Earthworks in the Parish of Bitton;
  • A Survey of Quaker Burial Grounds in Bristol and Frenchay.

Each volume also includes a review of excavations throughout the former county of Avon for the past year.

Volume 16

BAA Volume 16 has now been issued to members and is on sale, either direct from the Society or through Bristol City Museum. Contents include articles on the Archaeology of the parish of Clifton (James Russell); a group of 19th century clay pipes from Wellington Road, St. Pauls (Ian Beckey); a report on the excavation of a Romano-British site at Lawrence Weston (Eric Boore), and the Review of Archaeology in Bristol and the surrounding area, 1998-1999 (Bruce Williams).
