BCS Comments on the BCC Draft Statement of Community Involvement
Under Government reforms of the planning system, the City
Council is obliged to publish a "Statement of Community Involvement"
explaining how it proposes to ensure more effective involvement for the
community in the planning process - both in making local plans and in
dealing with planning applications. The Council statement was recently
put out in draft for public comment.
The statement is crucial to community/City Council relations in the
future. The Civic Society has analysed the statement and our comments
are set out below. In common with other community groups in Bristol, the
Society does not think that the present draft meets Government
requirements to change from "consultation" to full involvement and has
asked for changes.
There will be a second draft produced in January 2006, followed in the
Spring by a formal examination of the draft at a public hearing chaired
by a Planning Inspector.
