ENVIRONMENTAL AWARDS 2004

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL NINE WINNERS

The Civic Society thank Bristol Water for their generous support and Bristol Zoo for hosting our Award Ceremony in their Terrace Theatre. We also thank Keith Warmington of BBC Radio Bristol for presenting the Awards.

The general public and our members nominated seventeen schemes from across Bristol and it was a difficult job to narrow them down to the eventual nine winners.

In no particular order we chose:

Bristol University’s Dorothy Hodgkin Building, named after its Nobel Prize-winning fifth Chancellor.
St Anne’s Infants new nursery. Together with its adjoining Junior School it has now been listed Grade II by English Heritage.
Bristol Zoo’s Terrace Theatre is a flexible, multipurpose facility, built to the highest standard of ‘green’ design.
The George’s Square Atrium is in a building on the site of the former Courage Brewery.
Adjacent to Welsh Back, the Victorian ‘Byzantine’ Granary has been restored and refurbished as city centre apartments.
The St Paul’s Community Sports Academy is an outstanding success with over 70% use being by local residents.
Thorne Security have provided a bright ‘lift’ to 29/37 West Street, Old Market as part of the regeneration of the area.
An eye-catching modern mews house, 28 Kings Parade Avenue, off Whiteladies Road.
Last, but very much not least, 7-12 Triangle South, Clifton, is a delightful surprise.
