A WELLINGTONIA ON BRANDON HILL - SUCCESS!

On Monday 29th November there was a significant ceremony at the Wellingtonia planted in 1973 on Brandon Hill. After years of trying I finally managed to have a  plaque erected to replace the two previous stolen ones. The plaque was paid for, and the ceremony organised, by the ss Great Britain. Many thanks!

Some of us who were present at the planting in 1973 were there. Apart from myself and my wife, Jerry and Ann Hicks, Stephen McFarlane and Alderman Bert Willcox, now 93, came along. Others were representatives of the ship and Bristol City Council. A few family members also came. The Evening Post took some photos and published an account a couple of days later. Although the plaque doesn't have the same wording as the original, it has the same sentiments. Hopefully, it won't be pinched!
