Bristol
Cathedral Concert Choir is an auditioned choir. It was formed in 1953
by the late Clifford Harker, as Bristol Cathedral Special Choir, to perform
major choral works. It adopted its new name in June 2006 to reflect and
acknowledge the fact that the word "special" has different meanings
and connotations in 2006 from those it had in the 1950s. At present the
choir numbers around 80 singers at full strength and rehearses on Monday
evenings in Red Maids' School (see rehearsal schedule). It gives four
performances in the Cathedral during the season. The Choir is conducted
by the Cathedral's Organist and Master of the Choristers.
As
well as its musical activities the Concert Choir holds occasional social
events and a summer supper to mark the end of the season.
