BRISTOL RECIPIENTS

On August 16^th,1917, at Frezenberg,Belgium, Lance corporal Frederick George Room, of Congleton Road, St Georges was serving with the 2nd Battalion,Royal Irish Regiment. The Regiment was holding a line of shell-holes and short trenches and had suffered many casualties. Room,then just 22 years old,was in charge of the stretcher bearers. He worked continously under intense fire,dressing the w0undded and helping to evacuate them Throughout this period,with complete disregard for his owm life, he showed'unremtting devotion to his duties;

Room's Victoria Cross is on display at the National Army Museum,Chelsea.
