What is LINK?

LINK is a national organisation with local groups. It is open to anyone between 18 and 30. Each group is different as programs are planned by the members themselves. Great Western Link is the local LINK unit for the Bristol and Bath area and has a varied and active program of events. LINK is part of the Guide Association.

Great Western Link has regular meetings on the first Sunday of the month in a Bristol pub to chat and plan activities, anyone is welcome to come along and find out what's going on or just join us for a social drink.

Outdoor Activities

This year Great Western Link have been on:

Local walks in the Cotswolds and Mendips, stopping for a pub lunch along the way

Some more strenuous walks including a day in the Brecon Beacons

A camping weekend in the Lake District

Training

LINK offers the opportunity to:

Train and gain qualifications in canoeing, first aid, catering, mountain leadership, craft...

Take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme or the Guide Association Look Wider Scheme

Social

LINK offers a wide range of social activities for you to join in with. You can;

Spend evenings barbecuing, at the theatre, a health suite, club or restaurant...

Days out sightseeing, walking, canoeing...

Meet members locally and nationally for drinks in the pub, weekends away, holidays abroad...

Recent Great Western Link events include a barbecue, a day punting on the river in Bath, a trip to the theatre, a holiday to Scotland.In previous years Great Western Link has organised touring holidays to Eastern Europe visiting Poland, Hungary, and the Czech republic

National social events include twice yearly link ups. These weekend camps are a great way to meet other members from around the country and have fun joining in with the activities, disco and entertainment.

Service

LINK provides a rewarding opportunity to meet people and work as part of a team whilst helping out at local or national events

LINK offers service within and outside the Guide and Scout movements.

Examples include helping at a fun day, assisting at disabled camps, teaching sports or crafts, publishing newsletters, providing a camp security or catering team and undertaking conservation work

Great Western Link has recently spent a weekend working on the new county guide camp site clearing undergrowth and building a campfire site

In October we organise a Fancy Dress Sedan Chair race for Venture Scouts and Ranger Guides in the county.
