The David Salt Big Band is a voluntary i.e. not for profit
arts organization of musicians (currently 18 instrumentalists +
deps and a vocalist). It was founded in April 1970 in Bristol, UK
with Mr. David Salt as musical director. For the past 32 years it has provided a weekly 2-hour
in-depth rehearsal for jazz musicians of varied ages, and a chance
for vocalists to sing accompanied by a jazz orchestra. The DSBB
has seen several players leave to take up professional posts in
London; one young trumpet player won a scholarship to Berkeley,
CA some years ago. Over the years, various vocalists have left to
turn professional, always citing the DSBB as an important contribution
to their individual improvement.

THE PAD a list of numbers currently catalogued in the bands library: this list was prepared by Derek (baritone sax) [Dec. 2002]. It is complete, but not all arrangers are documented and we are just starting to add key and soloist info [updated May 2003, L.B.]. As you can see, the band's library has most of the great standards of the jazz heritage, many great names in arrangers, and a few novelties too. This sheet music collection is a beautiful asset of the band. |
