Act to say 'yes' to renewable energy and 'no' to coal

The burning of coal for the production of energy is responsible for over 50% of the manmade carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, yet the UK Government is still planning to build eight new coal power stations - Britain’s first in over 30 years  info  The Commons Environmental Audit Committee Report urges the Government to  set a deadline for coal-fired power stations to adopt carbon capture and storage or face closure.

Climate bill-

Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for the Department of Energy and Climate Change, has committed to reducing the UK’s carbon emissions by 80 per cent by 2050! The Climate Change Act will require the UK to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 80 per cent (based on 1990 levels) by 2050. A series of five year interim 'targets' will also be set - which will take the UK's share of international aviation and shipping emissions into account and ensure that the target is kept on track. The Committee on Climate Change http://www.theccc.org.uk/ is due to recommend the first five year 'budget' periods. http://services.parliament.uk/bills/2007-08/climatechangehl.html,   The Climate Change Bill Cttee has met http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm/cmpbclimate.htm, Members: http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200708/cmpublic/climate/cmclimate.htm
