Who are we and what do we want?

  • Parents Action for Secondary Education is a non-political organisation with one aim - the earliest possible establishment of a new secondary school in North West Bristol to serve the needs of the local community.
  • PASE represents over 1360 parents and carers who are dissatisfied with the provision of state secondary education for their children in North West Bristol. The majority of our members live in Westbury-on-Trym (34%), Henleaze (23%), Stoke Bishop (16%) and Westbury Park (9%), the remainder live in all areas across North Bristol.

  • PASE is headed by a small committee and was set up in 1996. We have been relentless in our campaign to see a new state secondary school built in North West Bristol.

  • We are campaigning for a local community school to be based on the Stoke Lodge site in North West Bristol which is currently owned by Bristol City Council. This is the only site large enough to satisfy the needs of the majority of children currently without a local secondary school.

  • We want our children to move on to secondary education together, we want brothers and sisters attending the same school within the local community and we want a sixth form within this school so that children can move on to higher education if they wish.

  • We want to help stop the drift of Bristol pupils from our excellent primary schools into local authorities outside the city and into Bristol's independent schools.

What have we achieved so far?

  • Agreement for a new school - but the wrong location!
  • PASE has kept up constant pressure on those responsible within the local education authority to ensure that this issue remains a priority.
  • We have carried out surveys to ascertain facts and figures to support our claims and distributed copies to the relevant authorities.

  • Links have been established with the DfES, our local MP, councillors and the local press to ensure that we and our members have been kept up to date with developments.

  • We have organised many public meetings, often inviting key members of the city council to speak and answer your questions.

  • PASE is delighted that after much debate and consultation the local education authority have now agreed with us that a new state secondary school is essential and that plans are under way to make this school a reality.

  • We feel that PASE, with the support of its members, has played a major part in the decision to build a new school. PASE will continue to campaign for the new school to be built on the Stoke Lodge site in North West Bristol. Redland is not acceptable.
