St Patrick's Music Group | About Us

The music group at St Patrick's Church was established in 1988 when Father Gregory Grant arrived in the parish. At that time the group was led by Pat Shore and consisted of a variety of musicians and singers. In 1989 Anne Fowles took on the task of leader and introduced guitars to the group, even learning to play one herself (with the help of Pat Uren). By this time the group had acquired accordians and flutes as well as the guitarists. The group would later be joined by the other members of Anne's family, John and Cathy on violin and Helen on cello.

Going from strength to strength the group played for the opening of the new church in June 1995 and became the mainstay of music provision in the parish, introducing new music to parishioners. After 13 years' dedication Anne decided to take 'early retirement' from the group and in 2002 leadership was taken over by Andrew and Lesley Lee. Since then the group has continued to thrive with more musicians and singers joining.
