What it’s all for?
St Patrick’s Church Music Development Programme is aiming to evolve the existing provision of church music and also to explore new opportunities, including specific provision for young people.

Our plans include:
> From September 2007, a professionally staffed Saturday morning music school, including choral and instrumental workshops, offering structured church music training to young people from the Bristol area.
> Organ scholarships to help aspiring organists
> Development of existing church music including resources for St Patrick’s Choral and St Patrick’s Music Group
> Further development of our facilities as a Community Music performance venue for East Bristol, including the provision of a recital quality Grand Piano and Pipe Organ

Our running costs, excluding capital projects such as a Piano and Organ, are approximately £10,000 per annum. Your assistance in meeting this cost is essential to the further development of this community resource.

Barn Dance Success!
St Patrick’s Music held its first ever major fund-raising event last Saturday, 7th October 2006 – a fantastic Harvest Weekend Barn Dance. With spirited musical accompaniment by the talented folk band Cat’s Whiskers, over 100 people enjoyed a night of lively dancing! Everyone had a wonderful evening, and it was especially nice to see many visitors from outside the parish.

Our thanks to the Cat’s Whiskers, and to everyone who helped make this event such a success. Particular thanks to Jane Buttigieg, our Volunteer Friends Coordinator, who helped organise this event. Special thanks must go to our team of Volunteer Friends who set up and decorated the Parish Centre, prepared the hearty Ploughman’s suppers, managed the door and bar and of course washed and tidied up – without them this event would have been impossible. St Patrick’s Music committee would like to thank everyone for supporting this event, and for all the positive feedback. Comments included:
“What a wonderful family event for the parish – we need more like this!”
“When’s the next one?”
“If this is the first event, we have loads of great occasions to look forward to

– thank you all!

The Ordination and First Mass of Father James Finan
Members of St Patrick's Music were delighted to attend the Ordination to the Priesthood of James Finan at Clifton Cathedral on Saturday 8th July 2006. The occasion was particularly special to us as James's parents Nick and Monica are members of both St Patrick's Music Group and St Patrick's Choral.

St Patrick's Music were also priviledged to provide the music for James's First Mass as a priest on Sunday 9th July 2006 in his home parish. The combined forces of the Music Group and Choral made it an especially vibrant mass. This was despite the fact that we were unable to rehearse in the church whilst the new artworks were being installed. Thanks go to St Patrick's School for providing us with alternative rehearsal facilities.

Possibly one of the highlights of the mass was the moment Nick Finan stepped up to the lecturn to sing the psalm, a total surprise to all but 4 (maybe 5!) members of the congregation and James in particular.

Our prayers and best wishes go to James as he starts this new journey.

Aunt Sally's Choir take the top spot!
This year's Summer Fayre saw the debut entry of St Patrick's Music's stand 'Aunt Sally's Choir'. Not only did it proved to be very popular but we also took joint first prize for 'Best Dressed Stand'. The idea of throwing balls through the mouths of members of the choir and music group was obviously very appealing to parishioners - not least the Parish Priest - and possibly the most popular target on the day was organist David Forde (can't think why!).
