Portishead
Choral Society is a friendly, medium-sized local choral society with
close links to the local community. Currently we have about seventy
members, drawn mainly, but not exclusively, from Portishead. Our season
runs from September to May, and we rehearse on Thursday evenings in
the United Reformed Church, Cabstand, Portishead. Our aim is to provide
the local community with the opportunity to perform or to listen to
choral music to a high standard. We give three concerts a year, of
music drawn mainly from the standard choral repertoire.
We
were founded in 1955, so the 2004 - 5 Season was our GOLDEN JUBILEE
which we celebrated in some style. The picture above was taken during
our Jubilee Concert in Clifton Cathedral, singing Karl Jenkins' The
Armed Man: A Mass for Peace. The 2007 - 8 season will be our first
full season with our new conductor, David
Homer, who has planned an interesting programme combining both
familiar and less familiar pieces
