Introduction to Quakers

We are a religious movement, believing that there is "that of God" in every one. We have no priests as we believe all people can have direct experience of God, and no creed as we believe "the letter killeth, but the Spirit giveth life".

Our Meetings for Worship are mainly silent, so we can seek the presence of God within and between ourselves. Anyone may feel moved to pray or say something of a spiritual nature.

This religious or mystical practice leads us to work energetically for peace and justice

Advices and Queries

This booklet contains guidelines which help Quakers to live out their beliefs in everyday life. For example:
"Be patterns, be examples in all countries, places, islands, nations, wherever you come, that your carriage and life may preach among all sorts of people, and to them; then you will come to walk cheerfully over the world, answering that of God in every one." George Fox, 1656
