I'm a complete beginner. Will I be OK?
You'll be fine. We have special beginners' routes on the first
and second Mondays of each month, when you'll be able to meet any
other people in a similar situation and maybe find a training partner
to run with on other days..
How fit do I need to be?
If you can jog and walk for a couple of miles you'll be fine.
There is always someone who welcomes a chance for a walk and will
keep you company.
I've done some running before. Should I come along to
the beginners' sessions?
You can join one of the groups in the main club run. When you
come you'll be able to choose the one that you think will suit you
best.
Do I need to buy special running shoes?
No, a pair of ordinary trainers will do for a start, but after a
while it may be worth getting some advice from a specialist running
shop. You will probably want to think about buying a running bra
as well. As a Sole Sister you can, on production of your membership
card, get a discount at Easy Runner.
Will it help me lose weight?
You'll burn 100 calories per mile and running will also help to
boost your metabolism. Of course, if you reward yourself for going
out on a run by going home and eating a cream doughnut it may take
slightly longer for you to shift those extra pounds!
