Es Cana is situated on the coast on the eastern side of the island approximately 5 k north of
Santa Eulalia del Rio. It is well served by hotels, bars, restaurants and shops and has a safe
sandy, gently shelving beach approximately 200 mtrs long running from the town centre to the
Miami Hotel and has several beach bars available for drinks and meals nestling in amongst the
pine trees which fringe the beach and are ideal for those who prefer a little shade. The beach
is normally VERY British and is enjoyed generally by families although all age groups and
nationalities are catered for. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available at 400-500pts each per day
|
and waterskiing, parascending, pedalos and other watersports are available.
|
In the centre of town there is a bus terminus, a taxi rank and there is a ferry point in the
harbour where you can take ferries anywhere down the coast to for example Sta.Eulalia, Cala
LLonga and Ibiza Town together with glass boat trips towards the north of the island.
|
Half a kilometre outside Es Cana is Punta Arabi where the weekly "Hippy Market" is held and is
ok for leather goods, jewelry and curios. You should be aware of the pickpockets and bag
snatchers that always frequent the market together with the "shell and card sharks" on the
pavements who will happily take all your holiday money. Also be aware if you are travelling
from south of Sta.Eulalia you may be caught in a 6km traffic queue !
|
Evenings are limited to local tourist shopping that normally close about 10.00pm and to hotel
entertainment or one of the many bars that front the small harbour which are obliged to stop
"public" music at midnight.
|
There are also a couple of small clubs and British pubs serving "known brands" of beer and
local stallholders selling jewelry.
|
You may be lucky enough to chance upon one of the local fiestas with locals dressing up and
parading through the town, culminating in the inevitable firework display starting at around
midnight, or soon after, on the beach.
|
The area is well served by hotels and appartments, generally within 200mtrs of the beach.

A quieter BUT MORE DANGEROUS beach ( due to the currents - I have assisted in the rescue
of an adult so great care must be taken of children to ensure they do not stray out too far -
near the edge is no problem ) is Cala Nova at the end of a quiet road which shelves more
steeply at certain tide times and has no shade. It is another beach well served by bars for
drinks and snacks between about 10.00am and 6.00pm - my favourite being Bar Cala Nova for
good food and cheap wine.
|
Sun beds and umbrellas are available at 400 - 500pts each per day.
|
|
Standing above Cala Nova beach is the Cala Nova Fiesta Hotel where I have stayed with my
wife once or twice a year for the last 14 years and the reasons we return so regularly is firstly
for the hotel itself - which is very well maintained, comfortable and is improved every year,
secondly for the food - which is varied and excellent, but thirdly and most of all for the
friendly and efficient staff, especially the assistant manager Juan Louis and the bar manager
Gonzalo who will make sure everyone has a good stay please say hello from me if you visit..
