Wye Forest 50 – Saturday 25^th & Sunday 26^th April 2009

Courses:  52 miles 

Start/Finish Venue:  The Whitecross Leisure Centre, Church Road Lydney, Gloucestershire (Grid Ref SO 630027)

A 52 mile event showing the beautiful and historic Forest of Dean at its springtime best, and the scenic Wye Valley, and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This is an undulating route with a number of checkpoints providing food and drinks. Entrants will receive a full route description before the day. However, a map and compass must be carried. This is a strenuous overnight, early spring event when weather conditions could be poor. Sensible clothing and footwear is advisable.

Showers, changing rooms and rest space available at finish

Start time: Between 9.30 & 10.30

Entry fee: £16 LDWA members / £19 non-LDWA members.  No entries on the day. Fee includes route description, refreshments on route, light meal at finish, certificate for all finishers.

Dean Forest Railway to Bixslade valley

The route goes in a northerly direction through the forest before swinging south west to pick up the beautiful Wye Valley. 

Coleford to St Briavels

Newland and Wye Valley

Wye Valley Walk to Bigswier and Redbrook

The route follows the Wye Valley in a south west direction to Brockweir where we cross the river to go north east to re-cross the river at Redbrook for a meal before going into the night to climb over the Kymin to again pick up the Wye to reach

The Kymin & Highmeadow wood

 Symonds Yat then English Bicknor before eventually swinging south east through the Forest of Dean to Cannop Ponds.

The route then continues south to reach the finish at Lydney.
